| Note | Agnes was one of five children born to Robert Hurst and Mary Ellen Brown Hurst. Agnes' brother John was a Golden Gloves boxer as a young man and gave a miniture pair of leather "Golden Gloves" to his sister "Jack". My Grandmother (Agnes)is my best friend, she died when I was 13 yrs old, but she is always in my heart and mind. I can remember her kindness, her gentle nature and her love for her family. She was the matriach of the family and there wasn't a holiday that went by or many a Sunday afternoon that her children didn't end up seeing her. Whether you were her child, grandchild, great grandchild or just a friend of her's she always welcomed you with open arms. She was a fabulous cook and there are still things that I remember fondly that she made, the smell, the taste have never been duplicated. I know that she is with me always. When I wed my wife and got to the church I greeted my relatives prior to the wedding service and one cousin of mine (who is more like my older sister than my cousin) had arrived from Canada for the wedding and looked at me and instead of saying hello said "You know she's here". What she had no knowledge of is that at home before going to the church my Mom and I were talking and I had said to her that if I could have anyone at my wedding it would be my Grandmother. My cousin and I are and have always been very atune to each other, and we are as the Scots call it "canny". I now am the holder of her "Golden Gloves" and I treasure them with my heart and soul. |
